Good Friends Are Forever
oh….my…gosh…
I am in tears of gratitude as I type this.
I just collected today’s mail, to discover a note from Susan Rossetti and nine of my Cle Elum High School classmates (Class of ’69), Lynda Colclasure Lien, Becky (Scott) Montgomery, Val (Chase) Barrett, Jeri B (Francisco) Porter, Susan (Thompson) Daniel, Rox (Badda) Snow, Patty (Walsh) Ericksen, Rita (Morris) Thornber and Shirley (Alloway) Bewley.
The card reads:
…you are made of stars.
Inside:
It’s true. You shine.
And the written note inside reads:
“Kris, We all wanted you to know that we support and love you in your life’s journey. You have our admiration and we wish you well, friend.”
A generous check and Amazon gift card were tucked inside.
When I go shopping for new clothes in a few months (following tummy tuck surgery), I will be putting the money to very good use and will certainly take photos and share them here with my benefactors…and y’all.
I am simply overwhelmed. Speechless. (A first for a professional wordsmith!)
Grateful.
I will never, ever forget this.
I have only seen four of these classmates once since 1969: Susan, Val, Rita and Patty (Patty was at the last class reunion I attended, which was more than 30 years ago.)
And yet, here they are, and remain, stalwart friends for life, letting me know I’m not alone with my joy.
Letting me know they still love and embrace me.
I can’t tell you in mere words how good that makes me feel.
Cle Elum (and Ellensburg, where Susan lives) are conservative towns, for the most part. I don’t know all of these friends’ political leanings, but I suppose they’re a spectrum, from liberal/progressive to old-style Republican conservative (before the GOP went off the rails).  Which makes it all that much more precious and meaningful to me.  They’ve come together to support me as a transgender individual.
WOW! Just WOW!
I’m going to be pondering and meditating on this for days…
I wish I had more verbal bandwidth to carry this blog post further. I am simply too full of gratitude and awe to be able to say anything more.
Sometimes your best friends aren’t even within reach, or on your daily radar to the degree they deserve to be.
Now I want a class reunion with these classmates in the worst way!
I want to hug them all and never let them go.
Except COVID.
(Damn COVID.)
OK, later, then!
It simply has to happen!
