Madness in the White House

My God, my God…

 

I just watched MOBY DICK starring Patrick Stewart. It was a depiction of single-minded madness. What was most disturbing is that the First Officer aboard the ship had no doubt Captain Ahab was insane; he just couldn’t get his ship mates to mutiny to save their own lives.  It was painful to watch, especially since (confession time) I never read MOBY DICK and didn’t know how it would end.

 

I kept thinking, “Surely NOW the rest of the crew will realize…”

 

They did … and they didn’t.

 

“Mad? Yes, I see that! But mutiny? NEVER!

 

So they all died. All except the lone survivor who told the tale.

 

It distresses me so to see what the new President is doing to this nation, not to mention the world.The policies he’s espousing, the executive orders he’s signed, the people he’s choosing to serve in his administration, the Supreme Court nominee he and his minion have put forth…. it all adds up to a single-minded, Captain Ahab-like madness diametrically opposed to all we consider quintessentially American. (Although we never have, and never will, attain our stated ideals and goals as a nation, surely this administration is headed in the exact opposite direction of them!)

 

This should NOT be happening in the United States of America!  And where is Congress–most notably, the GOP? They, too, believe he’s incompetent and of unsound mind, but they’re hanging on by their fingertips, trying to get as many policies passed as they can (policies that will kneecap us for decades!!!), including confirming Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court–before this horrendous, hateful, racist, sexist,  misogynist, xenophobic, hedonistic house of cards falls.

 

But if the house of cards DOESN’T fall fast enough, we’ll all be aboard the Pequot, sailing to our doom, as this hard-working fellow found out the hard way…

I’m frightened, truly frightened.

 

Donald Trump, Twit in Chief (with his itchy Twitter finger), sexist, misogynist, racist, Putin/Bannon-puppet, xenophobic nihilist.

Nihilist defined: (historical) Supporter of an extreme Russian revolutionary party which found nothing to approve of in the established social order.

Steve Bannon, racist white supremacist

Mike Pence, racist, far-right anti-LGBT, anti-abortion racist

Neil Gorsuch, big business puppet

 

The list just goes on and on…

 

And waiting in place to assume the Presidency IF/WHEN this administration is declared null and void is fellow Republican Paul Ryan, who wants to throw millions of people off health care and substitute a pathetic, inferior plan while we taxpayers foot the bill for his and every other Congress-critter’s full-ride health care, turn Medicare into a voucher system that cannot possibly serve the working class, and keep Americans from accessing the many benefits that the federal government provides for us as a result of paying our taxes–taxes that he and his fellow multimillionaire oligarchs, plutocrats and corporate entities get to offset, duck, offshore and sidestep as often as not! What Paul Ryan and his ilk seek is socialism for the wealthy; the rest of us can just  fight over the scraps.

 

My stomach churns with every new headline, every policy proposed, and every twisted tweet.

 

The general suggestion from others is “Just ignore it; think about something pleasant instead… Politics is dirty business. Don’t waste your time and precious energy on it.”

 

Would that I could!!

 

But with this Titanic heading into an iceberg, I’m having a really hard time doing that! There aren’t enough lifeboats to save us all, and we can no longer depend on the federal government to sail in on a sister ship and save us, with these malefactors at the helm. If this ship of state keeps moving in the same direction it’s going, I simply don’t see how we can survive as a nation.

 

That’s not catastrophic thinking.

That’s the apparent trajectory and legacy of this addled administration.

 

Is anybody going to do something about this, or should we just keep rearranging the deck chairs while we listen to soothing music, play video games, and turn a deaf ear and a dead eye?

 

I’m sick to my stomach.  This cannot and must not stand!
