Voices of the West Radio Interview Tomorrow
Tomorrow from 4 to 5 pm Pacific Daylight Time (and 4 to 5 Arizona time, since Arizona doesn’t observe DST) I will be interviewed about DeForest Kelley’s career in motion picture and TV westerns.
To that end, for most of the day I’ve been curating, editing and enhancing a comprehensive document with additional links to make it a cornucopia of goodies for the folks who will be tuning in to find out more about our favorite RowDE Cowboy.
The document lists most (if not all) of De’s western movies and TV series appearances. I’ve added links to snippets of as many of them as I can find on YouTube.
I plan to use the document to entice radio show listeners to opt in to receive additional information about De’s career in westerns and to be notified whenever I do another interview about his westerns career with other podcasts, radio shows and television hosts. (I’m also thinking of writing a book about his career in westerns. It would be a hoot to write because I know a lot of the stories he told about making westerns. Not everyone has that kind of insider information. A book like this would be of significant interest to the listeners of Voices of the West, I imagine.)
I’m working on the copy for the squeeze page as I type this. I have two versions, one wordier than the other. Lisa may split test them, since there’s another westerns-related podcast on the near horizon.
The idea is to separate De’s fans (and those who have become mine) into viewership groups so I don’t irritate one faction while informing another. For example, Star Trek fans may not give a rip about De as a cowboy–and vice versa. So it makes no sense to treat them all the same.
I want to make sure that when I reach out to Kelley fans, I’m not bugging the ones who don’t want to be notified. So over time I’ll also separate them according to specific genres and topics.
I’ll also create opt in pages for animal lovers so they only hear about books like Let No Day Dawn that the Animals Cannot Share and Serval Son, plus whatever books I come across in that genre that I think they’ll enjoy knowing and reading about.
I’ll create an opt in page for business owners who love self-help books along the lines of my title Settle for Best: Satisfy the Winner You Were Born to Be, plus whatever books I come across in that genre that I think they’ll enjoy knowing and reading about
I’ll create an opt in page for people who love to read books of humor or about Hollywood like my title Floating Around Hollywood and Other Totally-True Tales of Triumph, plus whatever books I come across in that genre that I think they’ll enjoy knowing and reading about
You get the idea. The idea is to send only targeted, welcomed, eagerly-embraced communications to the readers who enjoy the various books I write. Many of my readers probably couldn’t care less about some of the topics I write about; others want to read everything I write. Over time, I’ll be able to determine who everyone is based on their preferences and be abel to interact with them in precisely the way they prefer. How cool is that?!
Note to Self: I must remember to mention the DeForest Kelley Westerns Facebook page tomorrow during the interview so newbies (people who discover me for the first time tomorrow) will know where to go to engage with other De Kelley westerns fans and me. In case I forget… I’ve just attached the link to this blog post so western fans who land here can easily “grab and go” right to it! Ta daaaa!
Another Note to Self: I must also remember to mention that there will be an article I wrote about De’s westerns career in the November-December issue of Cowboys and Indians magazine, which will hit newsstands in mid-October, about six weeks from now. I’m sure some listeners will want to put that on their calendars and be sure and pick one up.
