My Own Sister Proclaims Herself One of the Cult of Trump

It’s a sad state of affairs when one’s own sister says she would hire Trump to run her bank or her business and to babysit her female grandchildren.

 

Yes, she said that. I was so appalled when I asked her if she’d trust him in those ways, I just had to call it quits and leave the room.

 

I literally shook for fifteen minutes afterward, I was so upset.

 

That’s crazy talk. Just crazy!

 

I guess that’s what happens when Fox eats your brain and Trump steals your soul.

 

She proclaims herself a Christian but won’t walk with me a mile in my shoes to see if maybe, just maybe, she may have been a tad bit misled by the Trump cult at Fox.

 

I told her I’m afraid of the way Trump is mirroring Hitler (and what that can do to marginalized people who are female, LBGBTQI, black, brown, red, and/or yellow) and she told me she’s afraid of “Socialist” Sanders.  I suggested she give up her Medicare and Social Security, then, and she said, “I paid into those.”

 

(Ummm, yeah, that’s what democratic socialism is: you pay into the system for the benefits that your government provides for you in the form of taxes.)

 

(Right now our taxes are going to giving subsidies to big corporations that don’t need them even though they pay zero taxes, and they’re going to blowing brown and black people to smithereens in other countries. How’s that working for us? Any new converts who love America yet, as a result of the death and destruction we’ve rained down on them for decades? Nope. Just more fear, hatred and vows of revenge. Many people predicted just that but the military industrial complex loves war: they make lots of money selling arms to both sides.)

 

Oh me … oh my…

 

How do you get to people who don’t even realize how deluded and misinformed they are?

 

If Jesus is real, He may not even recognize or welcome her as one of His when she gets to heaven. Instead, He may ask her, “Didn’t you even bother to learn the parables I taught, and what they mean, about ‘the least of these’?”

 

(Of course, she may not recognize Him. If He’s real, He’s Middle Eastern and dark brown.)

 

Putting brown kids in cages isn’t okay.

 

Discriminating against and marginalizing minorities–black, brown, Asian, LGBTQI, disabled, non-Christian (of which she is one and will soon be two: white and female)– isn’t okay.

 

Accepting the deceit and Nazi-like actions of this current administration isn’t okay.

 

But by golly, it’s all okay with her!  She likes things just the way they are.

 

It’s hard enough to accept that there are nameless, faceless people in this nation who think Trump is God’s answer to what ails America (did God run  out of locusts?), but to have one’s own sister refuse to look at a stack of articles that I researched carefully for hours (to be sure the sources were trustworthy) and offered in love to help educate her upsets me beyond my poor powers to express it in words. It breaks my heart!

 

She’s going to vote for someone who is about as close to the anti-Christ as I can imagine even as she studies the Bible for its timeless truths.

 

I don’t get it. I will never get it. And I need to start making plans to move out of this country and away from the Trumpster Fire that will happen if he gets reelected by people like my sister.

 

Non-alert people like her innocently (without meaning to) aided and abetted the Nazi takeover by Hitler in Germany.  Hitler didn’t just gas Jewish people. He gassed LGBTQI people, gypsies, mentally challenged people, disabled people, dissidents (people who opposed his policies) and anyone else who got in his way or criticized him. Sound familiar?  (Who has he kicked out of their positions recently? The two men who courageously testified about his impeachable actions, that’s who.) Hell, even MY neck is on the chopping block if I ever raise my profile enough that he or his henchmen see it… Doesn’t that matter to my sister?

 

Trump never “loses”; he “gets even.”

 

To be sure, he hasn’t gassed anybody (yet), but he has besmirched people’s reputations, caged kids, banned Muslims and compared them to “vermin” and “animals”, just as Hitler did. And he has signaled to his rabid, paranoid followers that killing his opponents (Adam Schiff, Marie Yovanovitch and others) isn’t  a half bad idea. (Remember when he encouraged his followers to “beat the hell out of the protesters. I’ll pay your legal fees”?)

 

Demonizing, “other-ing” and  and marginalizing is always the first step. That’s how it all started in Germany, and too damn many people looked the other way while “others” were being rounded up and shipped off to slaughter, until their turn came– and by then, there was no one left to protest their slaughter.

 

I don’t want to be here to find out how it all turns out, because with brainwashed people like my sister, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be a happy ending.

 

The United States of America is screwed unless there are more of us than there are of them.

 

I hope every last eligible voter  turns out to vote this time and that you will all look at the facts before pulling the lever or marking your ballots.

 

My sister won’t. Other Trump supporters won’t.

 

So it’s up to us.

 

Work like hell to get out the vote.  No election in recent times has ever been more important.
