My DeForest Kelley Garb

Den Desktop Stuff #2

Last night while I was in bed, close to falling to sleep, I had a flashback to DeForest Kelley asking me (weeks before he passed away) if I could fit into any of his clothes.

I joked at the time, “Probably not!” pointing to my big boobs.

But he persisted and told me to take any of his clothes that I liked or wanted, so I took some items (mostly sweaters, vests and stuff I’d either seen him wear in public or that I had given him as presents, which he had worn for various ceremonies — star ceremony, handprint ceremony at the Chinese Theater, at conventions, etc. — items I had pictures of him wearing).

So, thus inspired by my flashback, I got up and actually tried on three of them. They fit now (chest-wise, and I could pull them all the way down but I don’t want to stretch them out, so I didn’t wear them more than a second or two) and they will fit GREAT after my panniculectomy this spring (or summer, if COVID puts that procedure out farther), so I will be able to wear his sweaters.

Don’t know if I’ll be able to wear his casual shirts after the surgery, but I will see.

So, I’m excited! After 21 years, I might be able to do what De suggested and hoped I could. The two shown here are the ones I tried on.

I just have to be sure to behave the way HE would while wearing them. I’ve been known to be UN-like De more times than I care to remember.

I hope this new ability to wear his clothes will remind me of all he taught me about interacting with others…

He was such a gem!!!

I can’t mess it up. Messing up would be  akin to donning a Mister Rogers sweater and having my hand in the Daniel Tiger puppet and doing something un-Rogers-like.

UPDATE: OH MY GOSH! I have more of his clothes than I thought! (I took one of his best friends with me — De said to — after he died so he could choose what he wanted; it looks like I took just about everything else, because Carolyn told us to get rid of whatever was left (Goodwill) because she couldn’t bear to see them again with De gone, and I thought, “Blasphemy!”
So, I have a whole new wardrobe–and yes, I remember him in every one of these shirts and sweaters.
But there are about 12 shirts that I will never be able to wear (he got very skinny at the end of his life); one of them is a striped shirt just like the one he signed for me, so he must have liked that shirt a lot!
There are some funny sweatshirts and t-shirts in there, too: COWBOYS ARE COOL (this one looks hand-crafted, I bet a fan made it especially for him!) and a VOTE YES ON PROP #____ MEDICAL MARIJUANA.
I’ll attach some photos of me in the same shirts he has on in these images and a few more that you may remember seeing him in yourself at a convention or out and about (those of you fortunate enough to know/see him in person)
