June 15th is “De Day” in Forks Washington
On Saturday June 15th I’ll be in Forks Washington at their second annual comic con sharing some of my favorite “De Day” (DeForest Kelley) memories with convention-goers for 45 minutes to an hour.
I’ll have about 40 copies of my book along and will be signing them (and any others of mine that attendees bring along) while sitting at my dealer’s table on Friday and Saturday and until 11AM on Sunday. (See Book Table Hours and Speaking Time below.)
It has been more than ten years since my last convention appearance in Las Vegas, so I’m really looking forward to it.
Jodi Riker is the person responsible for getting me there. She’s also going to be my Security Guard. That ought to be interesting. (I wonder if she’ll dress up in Klingon regalia. I’ve seen some pretty fierce-looking Klingon security guards at comic cons and Star Trek conventions!)
I’m pondering how to present my memories of De. I have a couple of Powerpoint presentations, or I could read from my book a little and then open the event up to a Q&A the way De did when he was doing conventions… I have lots of time to decide on the best way forward…
I’ll be giving you more information after next weekend.
This year the theme of the Forks comic con is “Thanks to Stan Lee,” who passed away not long ago.
And here’s an interesting side note: the Twilight books by Stephanie Meyes take place in Forks, Washington, so there are Twilight-themed hotels and lots of Twilight swag to be found during a trip there. So there’s more than one reason to take a trip to Forks over Father’s Day weekend this year. You just might run across a vampire or werewolf that weekend, but I make NO promises about that!
This is one “De Day” you won’t want to miss. It’s going to be a terrific chance to meet other DeForest Kelley fans who will want to share their memories with like-minded enthusiasts, too, so we hope to see you there!
It venue can host 500 people per day, so if you’re shy or an introvert, you won’t feel claustrophobic at this one the way you might at larger venues.
I know I felt claustrophobic at Emerald City Comic Con when I went there to meet Karl Urban last year. I got out of there as soon as I could after the meeting. Shoulder-to-shoulder is a wee bit too cozy for me!
