I Have a New Client!

I have a new client. She’s presently on a shoestring budget but as I help get her name and virtual coaching services out there that should change. We’ve worked out an agreement because I believe in her and what she’s offering the world as an entertainer and coach.

Until I get the go-ahead to name her, I won’t divulge who she is, but I can list some details:

  • She has won numerous entertainment awards and been nominated for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress twice in her region
  • She sings every music genre
  • She has been a member of a cappella group Sweet Adelines International  for more than 15 years
  • She has traveled the country and the globe to entertain
  • She’s a black woman, 33 years old, a wife and mother
  • She’s going to teach what she knows virtually (and eventually in person, after COVID-19 scrams) to aspiring young singers and actors
  • She’s the lead singer in two bands

Whew! In a single sound bite, she’s a going concern and I feel great helping her get the word out about her classes and her availability as an entertainer — although at the moment, with the corona virus having shut everything down, her live entertainment offerings are on hold…

That’s all I’ll divulge for now.

It’s an exciting project.  She wants to have her website (which is a happening place already) fleshed out and made as appealing and “come hither” as I can help make it. I’ve written her bio already and will be tackling (I think) a press release about her virtual coaching options and her entertainment website next.

It’s a refreshing. uplifting change from the COVID-19 stuff I’ve been writing/editing/enhancing for a long-time regular client. It will be great to have something positive to focus on for a while.

In Other News…

So far, this is the only client (other than my regular client) that I’ve had since COVID-19 came to town about a month ago.  That’s unusual, to say the least.

I’ve submitted quotes for scores of other projects at Upwork, but very few have resulted in any  candidates being hired. I think everybody is shell-shocked and handling this pandemic the best way they can. I know a lot of businesses and entrepreneurs can’t offer their services right now and those that can may well have some serious financial concerns for the foreseeable future with the economy in free fall and most customers/clients locked away and focused on crucial matters is survival right now.

I’ve applied for the financial relief that the federal government has made available to help us get through these times, and applied for unemployment comp here in Washington State.  It’s a new thing that gig and independent workers like me can apply for this kind of help. I have to thank Bernie Sanders and even some corporate DEMS for that. (If it was up to the GOP, we’d all go hang. They’re touting the new benefits but a great many of them–some 40 people–voted against them, pulling the wool over the eyes of the constituents who don’t follow their voting records and just listen to what they say after the fact… It makes me livid!)

It’s a new world out there, not one of our making or of our liking. But this too shall pass, and when it does I’m sure we’ll all appreciate more what life has to offer when we aren’t on lock down.

Stay safe. Limit travel. Save lives!
