How to Help Bernie (For Introverts)

Like many people who support Bernie Sanders with every fiber of my being, I don’t have a bank balance worth mentioning and I’m not an extrovert. The idea of phone banking or knocking on doors puts me into a cold  sweat.

 

So I do what I can–what I’m best at. I write about him. I hope those of you who read this and agree with my assessment that he’s our best hope for this country and the world today will LIKE, LOVE and especially SHARE what I write with the people in your orbit who aren’t already firmly committed to another candidate.

 

These are perilous times, and it behooves all of us who know it to actively do something about it in whatever way that resonates with us.

 

There’s a meme going around that says, “If you ever wonder what you’d have done during slavery, the Holocaust, and the civil rights eras… you’re doing it right now.”

 

We are in that deep a crisis in our nation. The outcome of this next election will determine what kind of future we can expect after 2020.

 

If we want a habitable planet, that’s on the ballot this year.

 

If we want to remain a nation of immigrants, that’s on the ballot this year.

 

If we want every person in America to remain hopeful that tomorrow can be better than today, that’s on the ballot this year.

 

If we want women, children, people of color and other marginalized groups protected from further predation and harm, that’s on the ballot this year.

 

This election is the most crucial in our lifetimes, and it will bear mute testimony for generations to come about our priorities… if indeed future generations will even be able to survive here.

 

Yes, the next election is that apocalyptic, and those who don’t realize it shouldn’t be voting. But they WILL be voting, and so we need to turn out in greater numbers to win so they, too, will have a future.

 

We need to realize that we’re all in the same boat, and it’s taking on water and foundering faster than this administration is willing to bail it out. Hell, they don’t even recognize our peril as something real and pressing; they call it fake news.

 

But 97% of scientists (the ones as yet un-bought by corporations) say humans are causing climate change and that we have just a few years to mitigate against the disasters that will increase if we stay the same course we’re on right now.

 

Bernie Sanders wants to fix, repair and heal.  He doesn’t intend to prey on anyone.  He wants wildly successful corporations to pay their fair share of taxes so we can afford what’s needed to redeem the planet and our country. He wants our citizens to get a fair deal and not always be one pay check away from homelessness.

 

Social democracy–even true religion– demands that we take care of each other. No one should be falling through the cracks. No one should have to hold down two or three jobs to keep a roof over their heads. No one should go bankrupt because they get sick.

 

No other developed nation denies their citizens the above perks of paying their taxes. Neither should we.

 

We need to take a look at what we need to do NOW to stop our inexorable slide toward planetary collapse by holding people in power accountable for dragging their heels or ignoring the science.

 

Everyone will suffer if we don’t. I don’t understand how the people in power don’t understand this. Are they really so blinded by their greed and the corrupting influences around them that what happens to their children and grandchildren doesn’t matter to them?

 

If they’re that far gone, all is lost… unless we demand better of them.

 

DEMAND BETTER OF THEM.

 

Do whatever you can, in any way that resonates and feels right to you, to make your voices heard.

 

If you’re an extrovert, there are   dozens of opportunities to call, text and knock on doors.

 

If you’re in introvert, you can still find something to do… something that will let future generations know you “got it” and did what you could to make things better for them.

 

Post info about “democratic socialism” and the FDR era when the government worked for the people. Mention that Social Security and Medicare are two social democracy programs that people love and rely on to keep their heads above water financially after they retire or become disabled. Let people know Trump and his GOP minions are putting both programs on the chopping block.

 

Listen for the topics that people are nervous about and talking about and share why Bernie’s agenda is the one that has their backs. Send them to BernieSanders.com to get the real story. Help them understand that people in power are trying to scare them away from him because he wants to drain the swamp and get people into power who have their backs and their ears.

 

If you want a government that truly represents you, that’s what to do between now and November 3rd. After that, it will be too late.
