Going Grocery Shopping Today–EARLY!!

shopping-3225130_640

Albertson’s and Safeway are allowing only high-risk people (elderly, immune-compromised) to shop in their grocery stores from 7 am to 9 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so this morning I’m going to Albertson’s to pick up a list of things I need. (They’ll clean and sanitize the night before to make sure the place is as virus-free as they can make it, I’m sure, so that’s good.)

My sister Jackie will be going, too (separately from me). (Yes, she’s finally on board the “isolate” train since The Orange  One is finally on board and the community center where we played pickle ball and her church are shut down. My little rebel sis has to be “convinced” in no uncertain terms sometimes! *heavy sigh*)

My refrigerator looks like a ghost town inside and my freezer isn’t much more populated, so it’s time.  I’ve ordered some Ensure from Amazon, too. It will be here this week sometime–maybe today.

I’m getting stuff I can make lots of meals out of (stew meat, frozen vegetables, celery, potatoes, lettuce) plus macaroni and cheese, polish sausage (for the mac and cheese), peanut butter and jelly, and toilet paper (if they have some now). (Thank heaven for my bidet!) Gonna get some Dr. Pepper, too, because hey… it’s my ONLY “drug” of choice. (I’m moderating my intake, though, since I’m not pickling anymore until the corona crisis ends.)

I have rice here, and bread, and herbal teas…

I know other friends will be out and about today doing the same thing; I let Edward Smith know of the special hours. (He was going to shop yesterday, but when I told him about the special shopping days, he said he’d wait until this morning.)

It’ll be good to have some food stored again. It doesn’t feel “safe” looking so forlorn in the fridge…

UPDATE: For those of you finding the toilet tissue aisle bereft of TP, simply ask a worker there if they have any. This morning when I asked at Albertson’s, the lady said, “Just a minute, I’ll go get you one…” and she went into the back of the store and brought out ONE package of 12. So, just a heads up: they may be holding it back so they can hand out one instead of turning people back at the registers for hoarding it. I’m not sure this is the case, but simply asking worked for me…
