Drinking More Water…

I don’t know what I’ve had against water that I’ve felt the need to adulterate it all these years with carbonation and additional flavors. I’m beginning to really enjoy it “naked”, which is a good thing.

Jackie recently gave me two of her travel mugs (she’s down-sizing her mug collection), one of which I fill with water several times every day and keep on my desk here to remind me to drink some every half hour or so. The thing is, I drink it even more often than that several times a day, and feel measurably better as a result. So now I’m sitting here wondering why I ever felt the need to stray from pure, fresh, cold water.

One thing I do is keep a large container of water in the fridge which has been “aged” for several days after drawing it from the faucet so it loses its chemically-treated aspects and tastes like real water (in the days before fluoridation and other treatment plant nostrums). It is this aged water that I pour into the travel mug. It tastes like restaurant water, which I never can get enough of when I eat out–cold, fresh, clear, healthy!

So I enjoy and look forward to drinking it. I don’t need to add anything to it to feel satisfied, although I sometimes add Crystal Light to lend it a different flavor (raspberry or peach). I drink very few sodas these days so, when I do, they keep me up until midnight or later because of the caffeine that’s in the flavors I choose (Dr Pepper usually).

I have never been a coffee drinker, so caffeine-infused beverages can put a rise in me that lasts for hours. If you’re a committed coffee drinker, your morning pick-me-up would put me into hyper-drive for many hours. I’m super susceptible to the after-effects of caffeine now that I drink it so rarely…

Anyway, I’m falling in love with water again…cool, clear water… the beverage that refreshes without over-taxing my kidney (I only have one working kidney) or over-stimulating my brain. I find myself more relaxed, decidedly less reactionary, and measurably more contemplative, too–all good things!

Give it a try. If you’re not a regular water drinker, I think you’ll be surprised to rediscover its positive properties…
