About Today’s Earlier (Deleted) Pickleball Blog Post

pickleball-1583797_640

Late yesterday I wrote a blog post about pickleball. This morning I released it … for all of about thirty minutes.

I deleted it because, within minutes after posting it, I was hired to write a 1000-word personal insights blog post about playing pickleball and was offered $250 to write it.

I immediately realized it was half-written already and sitting on my blog, so I deleted it, added 500 words to it, and sent it to the client.

He loved it. And now he wants me to write a weekly blog post of the same length for the same price.

So Jackie and I came up with at least five more blog post ideas. I can keep writing for him for as long as I can come up with engaging articles. ZOWIE!!!  (He also creates other websites and will see which of those I want to help him with. Double ZOWIE!!!)

This fellow created a website that sells pickleball paddles and accessories. It’s a work in progress and the present blog posts (there are about 12 of them) leave a lot to be desired, so he was looking for writers who know how to write  engaging content. He wants 1000+ – word blog posts.

When we chatted on Skype this morning, I told him I’m a newbie at pickleball, so I wasn’t sure I was right for the project, but that I’ve learned a lot and have benefited health-wise from playing and I could share my insights as a kind of test project for $250, so he said, “Go for it…”

He set up a Fixed Price project for a single blog post for $300 (the other $50 was for a caption and Upwork’s percentage of the project). I sent in what I wrote after fleshing it out to reach the 1000-word specification, and he wrote back, “Great job!”

All I did was make the article conversational, and I ended it with something that will make the readers smile.

I wonder why other business owners don’t understand and capitalize on the value of words that engage readers…

It’s pretty much a no-brainer to me … and to this gentleman who hired me.

I need more clients like this one: web designers and other professionals who understand that riveting readers in place is 90% of the battle.

Visitors come to a specific website to learn more and/or to buy something.  Making sure they enjoy what they read when they arrive is crucial to establishing rapport and building the foundation for a transaction.

If that doesn’t happen, nothing else will.

It isn’t rocket science.
