2020 HERE WE COME!
![earth-1964822_1280 earth-1964822_1280](https://yellowballoonpublications.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/earth-1964822_1280.jpg)
2020 is just around the corner.
On January 20, 2020 those of us who love DeForest Kelley will be celebrating his 100th birthday. I may be flying various places to talk about him, if I’m available when they want me. (See next paragraph)
In April, May or June I will be having my chest surgery (I’m on a waiting list at a Seattle Hospital for that) and that will lay me up for a while. I won’t be flying anywhere for at least a month following that, I don’t suppose, because I won’t be allowed to lift more than ten pounds for six weeks, so luggage is out of the question…
In November 2020, with any luck at all (and many more votes than we had last time on the DEM side) the current occupant of the White House and his treasonous, obstructionist minions will be defeated for subsequent terms in office and the House of Representatives and Senate will turn blue in sufficient numbers to undo all the damage that has been done by the GOP over the course of the past 40 years–and especially since the B.S.-named Citizens United (should have been named Oligarchs or Corporations United) passed, allowing oligarchs and corporations to pour untold billions of dollars into GOP-leaning campaigns to defeat the will of the American people.
2020 is pretty much a make-or-break year for the United States (and the rest of the world). We need to correct course in a big way or we’ll be sent to the trash bin of history as a failed republic, and quite possibly a failed world. (See next paragraph.)
We need to put people into office who agree that the climate crisis is real and that we need to act now to save the planet for all of its inhabitants. The people in power now don’t seem to be overly concerned about this existential threat. They don’t plan to be here in 50 years and apparently don’t give a damn about the planet their progeny will inherit, so it’s up to the rest of us to demand that they stop killing it.
So far, the 21st Century has turned out to be disappointing. Even Barack Obama, bless his heart, was (old-style, Eisenhower-like) Republican Lite.
We need an FDR-like government that works for the people. That’s why I’m a Berniecrat. Bernie Sanders is the only statesman we have right now who has consistently fought for the rights and livelihoods of all people for the entire time he has served as an elected official (and before). He’s the only one not sucking the teats of oligarchs and plutocrats for his sustenance. He gets it! He’s here for you and for me.
That hardly makes him a scary man. It makes him a freaking one-of-a-kind hero.
Register to vote NOW, if you aren’t already. Check to make sure your name hasn’t been purged if you live in a GOP-controlled state. If you live in a state that holds caucuses, be sure you attend yours: that’s where your favorite candidate for President gets selected. Don’t leave it up to other people. Don’t sit out this time, if you ever have before.
The fate of the world is in your hands. Use them to do something good for the people, critters and planet you love! VOTE, RESIST, PERSIST!!!

Which I am going to say right now. Thank you!
1/20/20 will be celebrated by this lifelong fan. I am breaking out my TWOK Bones civilian outfit, my 1:18 die cast metallic blue ‘68 T-Bird and a glass of 2283 vintage Romulan Ale in honor of De Kelley 100 Day. I love DeForest Kelley, and next to Spock, Bones was the greatest character in the series.
One regret I have was that I had almost met him at the Kennedy Space Center for a convention in the late 90s, but he could not attend because he was too ill (Walter Koenig went in his place). I would have loved to have met him, he was irreplaceable on the show but also a kind, compassionate and gentle man. He is and will always be missed, and thank you so much for keeping his memory alive, to the 23rd Century and beyond…LLAP.
Greg. thank you for this. Be sure to catch my latest post on De’s 100th here: https://yellowballoonpublications.com/deforest-kelley-centennial-birthday-january-20-2020/
