Ripping Children from their Asylum-Seeking Parents at the Border

Ripping children from their asylum-seeking parents at the border is a national disgrace, and the outrage is international.

 

I’m depressed. I’m not suicidal or homicidal, because I’m not at the point where I’ve lost all hope. But THIS! THIS is bringing me very close to the abyss.

If this is what we have become as a nation, I want out.

I can’t live with the reality that every person in this country (including myself!) isn’t out on the streets protesting this abominable administration and it’s so-called Justice Department that quotes scripture (with an embarrassing smirk, did you notice?) and lies to  asylum-seeking parents by  saying it’s taking children  for a bath (echoes of Nazi Germany and taking kids to “showers” filled with gas to kill them) only to separate them and put them in chain-link cages and closed Wal-Marts, and proposes tent cities because there are no regulations to treat people as well as they must be treated now in chain-link fences and closed Wal-Marts.  

Seriously–what the actual fuck?!

In the United States of America?!

The world is right to condemn us. Our (white, mostly-European) ancestors never considered the rightful heirs to this great land worthy of consideration. They killed Indians, Mexicans, enslaved black people, and worked Asians to death…

Heck, we don’t treat Native Americans and people of color all that much better now , so we can’t claim, “That was then...“!  We’ve just added to the list of people we want to “own” and marginalize: white, poor working-class people, LGBTQI citizens, women of reproductive age… the list goes on and on for white supremacist ideologues.

If there is a God, I can’t imagine why He hasn’t long ago blasted this part of the American continent to smithereens. There are people in government right now as I type this treating human children like shit. And the rest of us are allowing it to happen.  We might call our legislators and complain, and many (but not near enough) of us vote like clockwork, but that’s just about it.

We’re acting like a bunch of zoned-out, castrated wimps.

The other side is using all available means to promulgate their horrors. On this side, we’re wringing our hands and visiting our mental health counselors in unprecedented numbers, where we’re being encouraged to “turn off the news” so we aren’t upset all the time.

Turn off the news? Turn a blind eye to the EVIL that is in our land?

Sometimes I think I need to do just that to survive much longer.

Other times I think I need to move to another country and let this one fail without further comment or action by me. (But that’s not what good citizens should be doing when their country’s leaders are being assholes!)

I don’t see this ending well. I see us crashing down hard and being relegated to the ash heap of failed nations. On some days, I would even applaud our fall. We haven’t been angels. We’ve been demons in too many cases to count. Every day brings another sordid example. I’m just so sick of all the UGLY that happens here every time I turn around.

But, by God ,there are plenty of us here who still recognize evil when we see it. Treating other beleaguered human beings like flies to be swatted is not the kind of America I want to be a part of.

FUCK YOU, JEFF, SESSIONS. FUCK YOU, DONALD TRUMP,  MICHAEL PENCE, PAUL RYAN, AND MITCH McCONNELL.

FUCK ANYONE WHO THINKS WE’RE HEADING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WHEN YOU SEE  PEOPLE–CITIZENS AND ASYLUM-SEEKERS ALIKE–AS ‘LESSER THAN’ YOU WHITE SUPREMACIST, BIBLE-THUMPING, HOMOPHOBIC, MISOGYNISTIC TYRANTS.

Children should not be pawns in people’s political machines, but the GOP sure loves making them so.

They take food away from poor children and deny higher education to poor students.

Why?

Because it works for them: keeping  people malnourished so they can’t learn creates more Republicans who can be indoctrinated to blame their circumstances on ‘others’ instead of its own soul-crushing policies.

My mother was a Republican. She would be utterly appalled to see what the party has become…
