100% Ready for ABC Day at Spanaway Lake High School

abc-day-2016

WOO HOO!  My SUV is loaded with boxes of my books, banner, posters, pencils, camera, tripod, power cord, table (in case one isn’t provided) and other things I’ll need to make my table at ABC Day at Spanaway Lake High School an interesting (perhaps riveting) place for Star Trek fans (who are EVERYWHERE!) passing by. (Venue Address: 1305 168th Street East, Spanaway WA)

This year I’m going to try something completely different:

I’m going to be giving brief five to ten minute book excerpt readings at my booth every hour on the half hour between 9:30 and 2:30. This will give passersby an opportunity to hear what’s in the books and how well they’re written so they linger a little longer, ask questions, engage, and (I hope) buy!

I’m selling the black and white edition of “DeForest Kelley Up Close and Personal: A Harvest of Memories from the Fan Who Knew Him Best” at ABC Day for $20 each. This will save interested buyers $4.99 plus shipping (if they don’t have Amazon Prime), so it’s a big savings.

I’ll also have the audio book version at the booth. It’s $24.99. The audio book has two exclusive features/benefits that isn’t available in any of the other versions:

1.) I narrated it (I’m the author)

2.) At the end of the audio book there are more than 15 minutes of actual voice mail messages from Carolyn and DeForest Kelley and other Hollywood notables including A.C. Lyles (who produced many of De’s westerns), Harve Bennett (executive producer of some of the Star Trek Original Gen  motion pictures), Tippi Hedren (actor in The Birds and Marnie, among other portrayals) and Teresa Victor, who was Leonard Nimoy’s “Girl Friday” (first secretary/assistant during the filming of the original TV series).

And I’ll have “DeForest Kelley Up Close and Personal” post cards in case people want to pick one up and buy one later (if they don’t have cash on hand, a checkbook, or access to my Paypal account via their smartphone).

I’ll be offering free hugs and free selfies (I’ll be in the photo, too, if they want) next to the DeForest Kelley book poster or banner  for Trek fans who consider something like this “a big deal”.

BTW, the day I consider myself “a big deal” is the day I’ll retire! De never considered himself a big deal, either. Being fortunate enough to be “adopted” by the Kelleys may be one of my claims to fame, but I still consider it a downright miracle. I don’t think I did anything in particular to “deserve” it, other than having writing talent and being non-threatening and willing to let them go if they wanted–as I proved by making myself scarce for 17 years between 1969 and 1986. Demanding, I am NOT–often to my own detriment!)

I will also have flyers on the table to let people know that I’ll be doing a professional book reading and signing at King’s Books in Tacoma on November 10th at 7 p.m., God willing and the creeks don’t rise. I want to see a lot more people confirming their attendance for that event in the next couple of weeks to make sure we have sufficient attendees to make King’s Books happy for having offered the venue to me.

So it’s going to be a lot of fun. I hope you’ll attend if you’re local! You don’t have to be from the Bethel School District to attend, so “come on down” and enjoy the activities, food, people, celebrities, critters and other things that the event always has to offer.
